OUR STORY
Where science meets the reef.
East Coast Corals began in 2016 as a side project while founder Chris was completing his thesis on coral morphology at the University of Sydney. What started as academic curiosity quickly became a practical exploration — testing, validating, and applying both the scientific literature and real-world observations of coral biology and reef chemistry.
During this early research phase, surplus corals were supplied back to the university and shared with the local reefing community. As we developed our range of trace elements, several community members reached out to replicate the results we were achieving in-house. From there, East Coast Corals naturally grew into a retail brand.
There were many successes — and lessons — along the way. From widespread bleaching events, to breakthrough moments where corals not only survived and matured, but reached reproductive (gravid) stages.
Today, everything we do is driven by science. All products are manufactured in-house using only the highest-grade ingredients, designed specifically for true reef performance, and rigorously tested across a wide range of coral and reef species before reaching your system.

TIMELINE
How we got here.
2016
The formal education begins
Chris commences his coral research journey at the University of Sydney, establishing the first experimental reef systems and beginning trace element trials.
2018
Community interest grows
Surplus corals are sold back to the university and local hobbyists. Word spreads about the in-house element formulas and their results.
2021
Retail range launched
East Coast Corals formally launches its retail product range — each element individually bottled and independently formulated.
2026
13 elements. 2 stockists. Still made in Manly.
The full range now covers 13 individual trace elements plus primary elements, with stockists across NSW, shipping Australia wide.
